With the theatric release of Heath Ledger's last film, "The Dark Knight" imminent, we'll begin to see an onslaught of stories honoring Ledger's memory. We're starting to see some of those stories coming out already. Most will deal with his death, his performance in the new "Batman" film, and the legacy he left behind. This story, however, covers a simple and most deserving posthumousness honor Ledger will receive from his hometown or Perth, Australia.
A fitting tribute...
The $87 million, 575-seat Heath Ledger Theater in Perth is a fitting tribute because Ledger was always supportive of other young actors, Western Australia state Premier Alan Carpenter said at a naming ceremony.
"Heath Ledger was totally dedicated to the craft of being an actor and that's what made him successful," Carpenter said. "I think what we're doing is continuing that support for young people who want to make a career in the arts and acting, stage and in film, whatever it happens to be."
Heath Ledger certainly did enough in his life to justify a lasting memorial such as this.
And if the critic's early reviews are any indication, his performance in "The Dark Knight" will likely cement Ledger's premature death as one of the most unfortunate in Hollywood's history.
